Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Azure Wed Feb 20, 2008 6:22 pm

After some brief searching, Kiev located the Yeidin camp. He earned many an odd look as he carefully picked his way through the crowd; deer standing six-and-a-half feet at the shoulder probably weren't amongst the fauna native to the region. He soon dismounted and led Kyrylo by the reins, Cazajo still perched on a trimmed antler. A soldier limped by with a nasty cut to his leg and Kiev was quick to offer aid. The man declined at first but eventually gave in to the boy's coaxing. He was walking well again a few minutes later.

The Isken youth wandered from healer to healer, soldier to soldier, extending his skills to the wounded but was frequently turned down. He became discouraged after a while and finally set himself down on the edge of the camp. Kyrylo heaved his massive bulk to the ground behind his master. The latter lay his head against the beast's side, rising and falling with his breathing, and decided he'd keep an eye out for any trouble. He promptly fell asleep.

Thunk

"Ow!" Kiev massaged his head where a fallen cone from a nearby tree had struck him. Not exactly his preferred wake-up call. He grumbled in Isken as he stretched and took in his surroundings. It was silent. He supposed everyone was still sleeping. Dawn had just begun to azure the horizon. A gray fog crisped the still morning air. His roving eyes caught movement within the camp. He squinted at its source. Two men were conversing; a moment later one of them walked purposefully away. The other began appraising the slumbering congregation.

Kyrylo awoke and yawned loudly. Cazajo stirred at the sudden movement and followed suit, albeit more quietly. She stretched her wings and gave them a warm-up flap before darting off into the woods in search of food. The megaloceros nudged Kiev's elbow, eager to have his bridle removed so he, too, could enjoy some breakfast. It was done and he began to nibble at frozen patches of grass and tree bark.

Kiev turned back to the camp; the man was still looking things over as more people began to wake. Might as well try to talk to someone before things get crazy again, he thought. Ooooh . . . I'd better plan my words out first this time. He pondered what he'd say and do for a moment before trotting off after the loner. He always preferred speaking with one stranger at a time to dealing with groups of them. Fewer witnesses to his idiocy should he slip up in conversation, which he frequently did. He didn't bother stopping to look the guy over or even consider that he might want to be left alone before his train of thought barreled forward.

"Hey, uh, sir? D'ya know who I'd talk to if I wanted to land an official job as a healer? 'Cause I'm good with stitches and bandages and I . . . er . . ." Mayday! Mayday! She's breaking up, Captain! ". . . Yeah." He coughed. My second act of asshattery within twenty-four hours and counting. I'm setting a personal freakin' record.

The people around him began to stir as officers and captains sounded their horns in one swift alert. Even though they were probably still exhausted from the battle, they rose quickly, eager to move on. Nemes’s expectations were correct: the soldiers were now far more alert knowing that even in these Lumerian territories they would still run into enemies.

Odei did his best to locate the people that made up his own group, and one by one he spotted them; Sachial, the pale woman, calcifer, the dark elf Ivaylo… yet there was still no sign of Origin and others. Assuming that she was still within the carriages, watching over children. He headed towards the wagons and carriages to search there, making a mental note that officers will have to count out their men, and register the names of the fallen before the regiment was ready to move on…

But in which direction would they go? Now in the dim, grey light of dawn Odei could see the full extent of last night’s attack; their number was cut almost to half of what they had before. Ruhmora, a massive Yeidin camp based in the mountains some two days from where they now stood was the nearest option… but there was no guarantee that the leaders there would grant Nemes a hand; their warriors were reserved for the greater battles… But then again if Nemes revealed to Ruhmora’s leaders the reasons behind this small traveling regiment?

It was a possibility. But Ahila was certainty; they had more soldiers to spare. Ahila was farther away… five days to be precise, but perhaps it was the better choice…

Odei’s thoughts came to a halt as he found a foreign, young man making his way through the rising soldiers straight for him, yet another outsider offering to join the regiment. “Healer?” Odei said more to himself rather than to question the youngster, exhaustion and pain taking over his wits, Odei was somewhat lost in his own world, and it took effort to remember specific orders. The regiment was not accepting new comers… but what about healers? Odei decided to leave this choice up to the person who set the rules in the first place. “You’ll need to speak with our General Nemes, you’ll find him there…” Odei gestured to a group of men immersed in scrolls and quiet discussions near the carriages. “ He’s the winged Vorei…” Odei’s voice trailed off having nothing further to say. Acknowledging the stranger with a node he moved off towards the carriages. He rapped gently on the door of the one he had last seen Origin sleeping in, calling her name quietly.

If Origin did not survive the battle of the night before, then Odei would have lost the last remaining friend of all those he knew before the start of this brutal war.

"A'ight. Thanks, guy. Er, sir."

The man nodded and walked off. Kiev sighed with relief. It caught halfway through his throat as his eyes fell upon the group of men amongst whom Nemes stood. He looked so . . . official. Authoritative. Important. Other adjectives that generally frowned most heavily upon inanity. Gulp. Kiev decided to get some breakfast in him before approaching the Vorei. Perhaps some fuel was all he needed to think clearly. Or a new frontal lobe.

"If there is to be anymore asshattery this morning, I shan't be the asshat to commit it!" he declared with an exaggerated nod. He marched absurdly back to where Kyrylo was still grazing. Cazajo stood hunched over a large rat a few feet away. She'd even brought back a rabbit for her master.

Star had spent the restless night sleeping on the ground in front of the carriage. She couldn't stand to sleep inside dead wood. It was just too much for an elemental being. Instead she had spent her time on the cold, nearly frozen ground, a much better place for her to recharge than any other. She had briefly worried about Origin, since the woman hadn't returned and she had been injured, but the nymph trusted others to take care of themselves, otherwise how would anything get done. Because Silver was just a normal fox with an abnormally developed frontal lobe and tails, he appreciated the warmth of the carriage and had curled up in Leyla's arms for the night. This had also eased Star's mind, since if anything aroused the animal, he would alert her immediately.

As dawn approached and the officers awoke the troops, Starlyght stood easily, having never settled deeply into slumber. There was no need to wake the little one's in the carriage, it would move with the caravan and they would wake on their own. Instead, Star checked to see if Origin had slipped back in, and seeing that that was not the case, she frowned and made her way to the General, trusting Silver for the moment. When she was within a meter of the man, she spoke with rigidity born of years of drill, "Sir, I feel I must report that Origin left sometime after the battle and has not returned to our carriage. I fear for her safety, since she had been injured."

Vasquiri nearly collapsed as he finally reached the campsite, Olorafien was not too far behind him. The night of holding their ears tight had been more than exhausting. They'd let their guard fall a few times, and had the singe marks to prove it. At least the body was fully disposed of. Those ashes would all find their way back to their first mother, where they belonged.

Vasquiri crawled under a blanket left empty by another dead soldier and dug his face into his arms. His entire body felt like ice, and it was not the snow that was the culprit.

Olorafien sat not far away, looking far too uneasy to lie down, his silver eyes scanned the skies not too far off. The white hairs on his dark neck stood at ends. all of his hackles were taut and rising. Vasquiri wished he could offer a word of comfort, but there were none. Lunalisett may practice light magic, but they were by no means kind and benevolent to a treacherous Umbrovisett.

The Nalu was still at the pyre, communing with the sky,her mother, and perhaps calling the Lunalisett to supplement the scanty ranks left after such a battle.

"It needs to be done Brother, She promised we will not come under harm." Vasquiri murmured between his teeth, trying to keep his calm.

"Not purposefully," Olorafien spat back. He drew Xull'ayne and began to sharpen her blade, returning to the nervous habit that comforted him while he was still tainted.

Sachieal found somewhat of a new comradery with Nemes. The two ran about at breakneck pace, attempting to bring the camp back to order. Sachieal had foud well with most of his allies, but he silently prayed for the others at the minescule funeral procession, or lack thereof.

There was many a dileberation on what they should do from here. They could seek out reinforcements or continue forward. Neither option fully satisfied the entire group, and so not much progress was made.

Sachieal walked the crowds of soldiers. He needed companionship, for letting his mind wander was not an option.

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Nick Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:12 am

Her fatigued body and dull but throbbing mind, protested continuously as Histlan had for the many seemingly endless hours did all she could for the camp and the people in it, though with her state it was slower and more burdened then she would have been able to do normally. Her feet were clumsier with the light-headed feeling and she felt blinder than she had truly felt in a long while. But the amount of people around her kept her from feeling too anxious over it. When people had asked if she was alright, she'd simply blamed tiredness and her lack of sight, which for the most part worked thanks to her hood covering up the worst of her wound. And despite the protesting, she pushed her body to continue with whatever she could do to aid under the circumstances.

At the small ceremony for the fallen she'd stayed more off the the side and found a good steadier place to lean herself against. Listening tiredly, headed nodded in an indistinguishable mixture of respect, sorrow and simple exhaustion. Knowing full well if her luck had not been so grand at just that one moment she'd be among those bodies being discarded respectfully. After that she found her way back to a smaller fire with heavy use of her walking stick. The flame had been made and then temporarily abandoned for the ceremony of their late comrades. Histlan'd searched with her hands on the ground for more wood to stoke it, a small gasp escaping her lips as she heard the crackle of old burning timber being broken under the weight of new wood.

"That what you wanted?"

"Mm..." She replied, and brought her hands back to her lap as she nodded. The young man, who was one of the soldiers there who'd barely picked up a sword before had sat down with her. He was the only one who joined her at the small fire further away from the center of the camp. Her brow pinched forward under her hood as she'd tried to place slight familiarity but, truly her mind would not sort it out for the moment. He did not know her name or place, but he remembered full well enough... he too would have been being prayed for if it not for her.

The man regarded the older woman with kind young eyes, and he asked when seeing the bruising if she should perhaps see a healer or medic, but Histlan refused quickly. During the next few hours where actual rest could be found, they spoke very briefly, mostly he told her she could rest while he stayed awake. She couldn't deny that, her body would not let her and she curled up on the ground, with the uninjured side of her face against the soft but too thin fur between her and the cold hard ground. Whether it was her exhaustion and fading consciousness or her everlasting ability to sleep in the most unaccommodating of places since her disturbing years, but she fell into an unconscious nature almost instantly.

---

Hazel eyes shot open quickly, looking about suddenly with apprehension when the boot nudged the young man's side, and he awoke from his upright slumber. Unsure of how long had passed since he'd dozed off, but his eyes blinked quickly away the sleep as they acclimatized the slowly growing light in the dull morning. "Uh... nnh." Get up, and ready. Rest time is over. He looked up to the deep voice but the officer was already leaving to awake others, and he heard the sound of the call. It felt too early for moving but as he was quickly learning that most things in this line of work felt too quick or too soon.

His eyes went back over to the woman he'd spent the sleep hours with around the now-embers. Feeling guilty somewhat that he'd fallen prey to fatigue as well, but she was still in the same place, only now more curled up, clearly cold with the too thin blanket but too tired still to be woken by it. "Pardon." He said over-carefully and reached to her shoulder, jostling it while trying to balance not being too rough. "It's time to start the day."

Histlan's cheek twitched in reflex, but she did not actually wake from it. "Miss...? Miss!" He said somewhat louder and pushed at her shoulder again. An irrational fear gripping his inexperienced gut, as he suddenly worried he'd let another die in his care over the night. Why hadn't he pushed her to seek out better care!? "Miss, get up!" The knots twisting up in him were greatly relieved as her body shuddered. She wasn't dead! And as childish as that thought stuck him after the fact, he was still highly appreciative of it. He snapped his fingers in front of her face, or at least of what he could see of it. "C'mon..." He muttered out and brushed back part of her hood, eyes widening as he saw the extent of the bruising and the once again crimson and brown stained gauze.

Suddenly his relief for her not having died on him, didn't seem ridiculous, and he was unsure how he could have let the severity of this to have so simply slipped by him... what hours ago? His youth and inexperience showed well on his expression in that moment as he was stunned with uncertainly, and outright fear but he looked up after a moment. "I... I have a woman here! S-she's injured and won't... won't wake up!" He called out towards people, hoping for some sort of help.

((Hope that's alright, I'm somewhat sleep deprived so I doubt my writing skills are at their peak... or anywhere near it ^-^;;; ))

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Mistress-Inu Sat Feb 23, 2008 3:21 pm

As the night slowly faded into a disconsolate morning, Vanity sat on a patch of ground she had cleared of snow, gazing out to the rest of the camp as they worked to restore whatever peace may be left lingering in the atmosphere. She would indeed be helping the others herself, and had attempted to upon her return with Kid to the area, but many of the soldiers were "considerate" enough to let she and Kid wander away and rest for a bit. Whether she and the girl had been stereotyped for helpless, silly women or not, Vanity had gracefully walked away, only to have her warm expression wiped clean from her face as she spotted the animal pelt from Mathias lying in a heap under a layer of snow and dirt. After sweeping it up and dusting it carefully with her hands of dust and ice, she recalled that she had not seen Mathias in days, and worrisome thoughts clouded her head.

Vanity now continued to sit there, the furs hugged tightly to her chest in both arms, half her face hidden in the soft pelt as her eyes stared into space, though at first glance she appeared to be studying the rest of the camp and the soldiers. For once, her pose was not so perfect: She was bent forward slightly with her legs crossed, her hair falling over her shoulders and arms as she held the furs close to her. Mathias...

It probably seemed strange that Vanity reacted so strongly to Mathias's absence, even after they were just attacked, for she hadn't even known the man. However, Vanity felt strongly that she still owed him for keeping her warm upon their first introduction. She still hadn't repaid him, and that, above all at the current moment, saddened her. If, by some chance, he had been struck down during the fight, she would be ridden with guilt. Perhaps I'm just getting ahead of myself, worrying too much, like always... He could have just strayed off from everyone else, or gotten lost along the way. Even the suggestion that he may be lost somewhere in the mountains was more comforting than death to her, and Vanity gripped the pelt tighter, furrowing her brows slightly.

With a small sigh, Vanity shut her eyes, struggling with herself to think more positively. Mathias was probably alright. Half the soldiers that applied for war hardly stayed with the regime for long, right? Many dropped out, didn't they? If he wasn't around anymore, that had to be what happened to him. Maybe he just found war wasn't to his enjoyment. Then again, it seemed hard to believe, considering how well-built the man was. Besides, there wasn't just Mathias... What about Odei, or Nemes, or Sachieal?

Vanity blinked. She hadn't seen Odei or Nemes yet, but she had caught a glimpse of Sachieal earlier on. He'd seemed alright... She hadn't been able to stick around to check on him, considering the rest of the camp and Kid, but—speak of the devil—Vanity straightened her spine and lifted her gaze elsewhere, there he was. Quickly, but still with her fluid grace, she rose to her feet, holding the furs close to her torso with one arm, and turned around, looking for Kid. Last she'd checked, the child had been close by. "Kid? Shall we go to check upon Commander Sachieal?"

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Xazz Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:19 pm

Kid had followed Vanity to the camp after the one known as Origin had left and had stayed on the outskirts of the group as the woman had tried to help people. But Kid had held back unable to move forward out of what could be called fear. But it wasn't really fear, it was nervous anxiety of being so close to so many people.

She was very much a lone wolf. As she'd lived most of her life moving through the wilderness with only Violin for any sort of company or comfort. So she was highly apprehensive towards people, either light, dark, or neither. Though she was very good at not letting it show.

But being this close to all those breathing bodies. Hearing their soft breath and mingled words echoing in her head had actually made her feel claustrophobic. So she'd held back but had appeared at Vanity's side once more as the woman had left the camp. When Vanity had found a fur pelt and settled for the remaining of the night Kid had taken that as a cue she could as well. But after a couple dozen minutes of trying to feel at ease on the ground with so many people near-by Kid was unable. Everytime she closed her eyes it was like someone had spelled her eyes to see something horrible happening.

So feeling unsafe on the ground Kid had scaled a tree to the left of Vanity. For some reason in the shadows of the twisted branches Kid felt safe. Well okay, not surprisingly actually, the shadows always felt better then the light to her. And after creating three puppets she feel asleep.

But it did not last long, some time before the sun figured it would start to rise Kid awoke frightful about something she'd dreamed of. But of what she didn't remember. And when she asked Violin they said they did not know. Awake she continued to appear to be sleeping her hood down in front of her eyes and recalled her puppets in case someone saw, no need to reveal all her tricks as it were. Once her mind was no longer in sleep mode she tried to have a conversation with Violin but they just gave her the run around answering her questions with incomplete thoughts or leading her on to something totally different.

"Kid? Shall we go to check upon Commander Sachieal?"

Kid jumped, almost falling off her branch. She had not seen or heard Vanity move so the woman's voice had startled her. She looked down at the woman who was scanning the area for her. Then she looked at the rousing camp. Despite it her heart started to pound and she started to sweat. But it had nothing to do with Violin's fear as it had during the night. This was her own fear for which there really was no reason to have. 'You can do it,' Violin offered encouragingly.

"Yeah," she breathed. Then she jumped down from the tree. She angled her body just so so she hit the ground on her shoulder rolled a bit then stood up. "I guess so Miss Vanity," she said and she dusted off her cloak and pulled her hood down farther so only her mouth was visible. She would put up a strong front no matter what.

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Mistress-Inu Sat Feb 23, 2008 4:59 pm

Vanity was almost startled as the girl seemed to roll down from the tree and, to her amazement, rise to her feet without a scratch or bruise... or even a sign that nearly falling out of the tree had bothered the child in the first place. The impulse to ask if she was alright was cast aside, as it was evident Kid was quite fine, and so was the need to curiously ask why the girl had pulled her hood so far down her face. It wasn't her business, and she wasn't vain enough as to think she had a right to know everything. With a small smile, which was rather forced, she started her way off at an easy pace, though she kept Sachieal in her sights from the corner of her eye each time she checked back on Kid. "Let's be off, then."

Though her intentions were strong enough to remember, Vanity was distracted as she walked. Her body managed to take the right paths in finding Sachieal, so that she might not bump into anyone or knock anything over, but her mind was obviously wandering as she gazed at the ground beneath her. I feel terrible for not noticing he was gone sooner... before the battle. I could have found him before then, couldn't I...?

"Pay attention!"

Inwardly surprised, Vanity jerked her head up and stopped, seeing Sachieal nearby. For the moment she grimaced, wishing... well, wishing a lot, really, but mostly that the voice didn't control her head so much. Then again, if she hadn't listened to its sharp barking, she might have run into something or someone.

Hugging the furs tightly to herself, Vanity walked a few steps closer up behind Sachieal and reached out, gently placing one hand on his arm. "Are you alright, sir?" she asked quietly, surprised that the utmost concern she had meant to feign sounded natural and... real. She shook the thought off; she was an angel, that's what happened. Vanity glanced over her shoulder and nodded her head a tad, motioning for Kid to come closer carefully.

Sachieal felt the hand on his shoulder and silently cursed himself for not paying more attention. He was too at ease for his own good. His thoughts comingled and clouded his senses. He wanted to roar and just end the whole journey.

But that wouldn't help him complete his mission, not at all.

He turned slowly and practically felt his eyes brighten at the sight of Vanity. She looked as if just as much was on her mind as was on his. He regarded her with a bow. "Miss Vanity, it's been a while. I hope you found no injury in battle..." His voice trailed off. Of course she had been injured in some way, everyone here was injured, be it mental or physical.

"And who might you be?" Sachieal's eyes fell on the other one, small of stature, assumedly female. Her cloak covered most of her body, save for a lower fragment of her face.

They just keep coming, don't they?

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Xazz Sat Feb 23, 2008 5:27 pm

Kid followed Vanity keeping about five steps behind her. She warily avoided the soldiers rising from the night shakily. Now and then she felt the spark of another like herself. But none of them powerful enough to take her on. She banished the thought, she wasn't exactly being egotistical about it, it was a matter of survival. If she came across Umbrovians out in the wild she had to know she could defeat them or she'd probably end up dead, or sucked onto their side where the not so savory part of her personality would flourish. She had to remind herself that these people had no reason to attack her, but the self assurance did not slow her pounding heart.

Then she saw Vanity move with a new purpose towards someone. She stopped about ten feet away from them as the angel placed their hand on the man's shoulder. She kept an eye both on the woman and the people around her. She could feel their eyes on her unknown form, a small being with a long cloak and a hidden face, quite sinister... maybe. She saw Vanity nod towards her and bit her lower lip a bit. 'Vi?' she asked she could hear the tremor even in her thoughts.

'Its alright little one,' they assured her kindly. 'I swear they will not harm you.'

Kid took those words to heart. Because anyone who'd messed with her in the past were not breathing at the moment. So she took a few steps forward faking confidence. "I am Kid," she said steading her voice so as to not betray the fact that her hands were shaking under her cloak. At least her voice held, for now. But as now most of the people were awake Kid was getting more and more nervous to be here. She preferred to be in the forest right now.

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Azure Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:54 pm

Cazajo made fine work of her rat, picking the bones clean. She then carried a rock several feet into the air and dropped it. It smashed into the skeleton; the calorie-rich marrow was now accessible to the hawk. The stuff would give her an extra dose of fuel, and a hearty one at that. Before she could feast upon it, though, she sensed a disturbance. She was not psychic by any means, but as an animal and hunter she was very much in tune with her environment. From her perch on a tree branch, Cazajo's keen hearing and even keener eyes caught a young man trying to rouse another two-legged. She did not understand human words but rather vocal tones. To her, this fellow sounded very distressed. She landed soundlessly beside Kiev, who had already skinned and chopped up the rabbit's meat and was now trying to start a cooking fire.

"Skree-ee!" she squawked, nipping his fingers.

"Easy, girl! You'll get some," the boy laughed, then gasped as his bird sank the fierce hook of her beak into his hand. "Augh! What the hell is wrong with you!"

Cazajo pointed her head in the direction of the trouble. Kiev followed her gaze and felt remorse for his harsh words as he, too, saw the perturbed soldier. Damn him and his inability to multi-task.

"I... I have a woman here! S-she's injured and won't... won't wake up!"

"Uh oh." He quickly sifted through Kyrylo's saddlebag and retrieved his bone needles. He'd have to pluck hairs from a horse's tail if he really did need to make stitches. I ought to keep a stock of those on me if I want to be a healer. Without further ado, he made haste to where the man stood beside the ailing woman.

"Zdrastuy," he greeted them as he examined Histlan's inert form, carefully peeling back the tainted gauze. He grimaced at the wound. It should have been properly mended several hours ago, but there was no time for tut-tutting now. "I don't practice the most potent magic around," he said to her companion, "but I'll try my best to heal this."

He drew a deep breath and opened himself to the Auralis. His hands began to glow as he placed them over the laceration. A bolt of pain passed up his arm and coursed through his body; his patient appeared to experience a similar sensation. Umbrovian? F&ck! But he held his concentration despite the growing tension. He doubted any non-magical intervention would fix this quickly enough to avoid brain damage. He felt the internal injuries begin to mend, albeit an agonizing process for the both of them. He broke the connection when he felt himself reeling; he'd be of no use to anyone passed out. Thankfully, all that appeared to remain was a benign flesh wound. A few stitches would take care of that.

"I'll be right back," Kiev said as he rose shakily and half-staggered his way to the nearest horse. With the rider's permission he took several hairs from its tail. It took him several moments to thread the needle as he was still a little woozy, but he managed to do a decent stitching job in the end.

What he couldn't fix was the irritation in his hands and the corresponding marks on Histlan's face, resembling intermediate burns, from where the two magics had butted heads.

((-cringes- Is it possible for a Lumerian to heal an Umbrovian like that? .__. I know it'd hurt like South Park-epic profanity, at least. If I effed this up I can always go back and do things in a less . . . enchanted way. Goodness knows I dote on medical shows.))

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Post by Nick Sun Feb 24, 2008 12:47 am

((Dunno precisely, I'm going to roll with it and ad lib a bit.))

The young man, probably close to Kiev's own age, but more than likely near to being too inexperienced to even be there, but he was not dead yet despite that. It was just the way worked, and in Azrian he'd felt it his duty for his family and friends, ney his people to join the ranks. He kept his gloved palms on Histlan in an estranged protection as he tried to summon for help, only backing off a bit clumsily as Kiev approached. "Can you help her?" He asked in eager concern, but he nodded quickly as his question was answered in the slight introduction, and the young man nervously watched.

Histlan's concussion had become more severe during her sleep, the 'rest' masking the indicators of it. Not that she didn't severally need rest. She heard their voices like distant whispers on an utterly silent night. Somewhere in the darkness, noise that was hard to distinguish into an understandable language despite it being her own. Her eyes fluttered slightly when the gauze was pulled back for closer inspection, but they still didn't really open nor was she particularly responsive, her body was taking its precise time to kick into gear once more. When the stranger's hand placed pressure on the laceration, her body quivered gently, and her lips pulled into more of a frown, she was beginning to consciously understand bits of what was going on once more, and she remembered the unpleasant feeling that riled up in her from unpredicted human contact.

By the time her mind registered the presence of oncoming lumerian magic, it was too late. It had been the very thing she'd been trying to avoid all night after the battle, especially after the unwanted fear that the Alati had driven instinctually into the darkness within her. Her one hand sluggishly rose off the ground, vainly going to try to dispel his hand from contact with her, but the sharp pain burned through her, feeling as though were wrapping around her spine and tightening there. Her hand hit the ground again and her fingers tensed and pressed into the ground, had it not been for it being hard and frozen by frost, they would have dug in aggressively. Her body went terse and tried to recoil in simple instinct, but filled with new and different pain there was nothing she or it could really do and for the first time in a long time, it reeled in a blank whiteness of hot pain where she lost track of even having limbs she could control.

"Nngh." She managed to make an indignant sounds of pain and her lips pulled up in what was more like a humanized snarl of pain. The skin over her nose pushing into wrinkles from the agony, and she looked as though she wished to get away but just could not simply. The dark markings on her face shifted, particularly the ones around her eyes nearest to injury seemed to snake away, trying to escape any potential exposure to the lumerian magic as well. As was it with the Alati, the darkness agitatedly curled up inside of her defensively as though under attack. Her expression alone made the young soldier with them very apprehensive, only comforted in a sick way that Kiev seemed just as uncomfortable so... maybe it was normal?

As Kiev pulled his hand away and finished with what he could muster, Histlan's body though still quite tense, slowed out of its ridiculous flexing and tightening and she seemed to try to compensate for the trauma with heavy and laboured breathing. The cold sweat on her feeling almost relieving in the sense that it, despite being unpleasant, had replaced the presence of pain to being just discomfort, but her hands shook in their pressure grips on the ground from cold and stress. She began understanding her surroundings slowly again, but recognition of the situation still only made sense after about the second stitch, though her brow twitched for each.

As horrendous of a thing it seemed to be to learn. the lesson of not suddenly moving while being sown especially had been one she'd learned from a too-young of an age. She furrowed her brow from the feeling of the needle and hair through her skin and the irritation of having been healed and patched up without her specific consent, but she said nothing. Intelligence of consciousness despite remaining sluggishness had blessed her features once more, and the paleness in her skin had lessened. Her hands slid up on the ground slowly, readying herself to push up, but still she otherwise remained still patiently.

Her lips twitched in a particularly sensitive spot when he'd put the needle through. "...Easy." She warned dully with a weaker and tired voice. She could feel the burning and uncomfortable warm of the cold air of her face though, and the sting of the wound. It was not gone nor was the bruising, and now their were urn-like marks as well, but it was all still a considerably fair trade, since the severity of her concussion had dropped greatly and the swelling too had gone down.

Kiev had felt a pang of guilt and ineptitude at Histlan's obvious agony. He felt the writhing of her body and caught the grimaces that flexed across her face, though he, too, got some kind of perverted satisfaction out of his own pain. But he grinned in a relieved sort of way at her verbal response to his less enchanted work. She'd be fine now. Not entirely back to speed quite yet, but fine.

"Sorry, ma'am," he began warily, "but, ah, I'm not sure how much longer you had before things got really ugly. I didn't see anyone else coming." He paused for a moment, trying not to sound like a jackass. He coughed and continued, "I saw an injury kinda like that once. I'm a hunter, see, and someone in my party once got nailed in the side of the head while we were going after smilodon. I'm not sure you want the gory details, but it was nasty. I did end up getting this tooth out of it." He indicated to the six-inch saber that hung around his neck.

Down, boy, his sense of modesty chided. I have a hard time believing she wants to hear about how you and your buddies slew a disproportioned cat with over-sized canines at the present time.

". . . Yeah." He coughed again. "Well, better get back to my breakfast. My hawk's probably eaten half of it by now. Whenever you want to get up I'm sure your friend will lend you a hand. If you need it, that is." Just shut up, Kiev. "So, ah, see you around."

He got in several large strides before something occurred to him. He retraced his steps to Histlan and the male soldier. "I'm Kiev, by the way." There was more exchanging of names and Kiev finally began to feel less intimidated. He was making friends. Well, acquaintances anyway. That was always better than nothing. He returned to his beasts feeling a bit brighter.

((A little flirting? Possible, but not probable. Kiev's just really awkward around strangers of either gender. Like me. XP EDIT: tied up that pesky loose end.))

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

Vanity gave Kid a small, bright smile and felt her arm begin to reach towards the girl—but then reconsidered it. The child didn't seem too fond of physical contact at the moment, and being that she was so young didn't help that fact. Instead of taking Kid under her arm, Vanity kept her hands at her sides and looked back up to Sachieal, her dark eyes quizzical. Did he actually seem exhausted? Well, if he wasn't tired, he seemed bothered by some other thing.

Inclining her head to him in a small bow, Vanity said, "I had some trouble towards the end of the fight, sir, but it was taken care of. I only suffered a few cuts and bruises and simply a broken bone, nothing too serious." Well, for her, it was "nothing too serious". She then added, "A tan-skinned woman healed it for me." Yet another I owe a debt to. I need to make sure I actually repay this one... Subconsciously, Vanity's brows furrowed slightly at the thought of Mathias. Damn... Before the subject could fully envelope her mind in worry, she hurriedly kept her mind on track. "I hope you escaped the attack unscathed. It was... quite brutal."

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

((Ah sorry for taking a little while on a reply))

Histlan moved her head slightly, opening her eyes into small slits. An estranged feeling striking her as though something was simply off. She pushed herself up with her hands once more, sitting up brought a whole wave of oddity. She still felt light-headed from it, but it was a sort of uncomfortable feeling she was much more aware of, unlike before when she'd grown to not even be aware of it anymore and her weight had shifted without discretion or warning. She brushed off her fingers on the material of her pant leg and then pulled off her glove, hiding her black fingers in her sleeve as best she could without being strikingly obvious. She realized what seemed odd, when she moved her hand up to touch her face, and found the blackness and lighter blue-purple of her fingernails in front of her one eye. The very fact was she was using it, objects were still blurred, but there was the colours, all right in front of her. In the process of pulling back the gauze to partially heal her wound, her one eye had been more exposed, and the feeling of cool air against her lashes was an old oddity to her.

She lowered her face as she was reminded of her company by Kiev wary start to speaking. Her fingers moved over the stitches, and she closed her eyes firmly once more, 'seeing' for herself the handiwork he'd done to her brow. It would certainly do and each stitch was tight and secure. It just... stung to her touch. She pressed her lips together slightly in pain and then pulled the gauze back down. It was dirty, but it'd still apply some pressure for the time, until she could locate some more.

Histlan sat and listened to each word he was saying though, slightly confused at his introduction about being a hunter, not a soldier. She secured her thinner glove on her hand again before pulling her hood down fully over the top portion of her face once more, feeling still too exposed without it... especially as the black marks were still settling awkwardly on her skin, and had they already she was sure that soon they would shift again to take back the places they very loosely called home on her body.

"Mm..." She parted her lips, finding them dry and unhelpful, "Well... thank'ye, sir." She shifted once more, a hand finding her makeshift walking stick where she'd left it during her 'sleep'. She was unsure of what else to say. She could not see the tooth he meant, nor did she even think of the young man with her until Kiev mentioned it. He said his quick goodbye after many other things and Histlan was a little surprised by how brief it was, though she had a feeling it might also have been cause she was still feeling slower. "Ah... alright."

When she heard his footsteps, she looked back to the young soldier with her, "We are still with the troops... right?" She said uncertainly. She heard the noises of it all around her but she felt an odd sort of doubt for a moment, which made an unwelcome anxiety come up in her. Her head turned back to Kiev as she heard him returned and introduce himself, a small curve coming to her lips, 'Kiev', well she'd have to remember that, certainly. "I am Histlan." She responded and bowed her head to him subtly, "Thank you, once more."

When he exited again, the young soldier informed her of where they were in comparison to certain landmarks like the carriages and where they'd come from and were heading once more. Once she'd felt as comfortable with her surroundings as she could, she pushed herself up again, things were still scattered from all the night's events and the orders had been sounded that it was time to get moving once more, and she imagined they'd be going as swift as they could now, but she mostly just felt lost... Histlan stiffened her lower lip though and lifted up her chin, first thing was first, she hoped to find out what happened to Arshaw, and to the rest of the people she had become more acquainted with.

[[sorry, i've been busy]

'Nalu glided down to the cold earth when she felt the lightening of her shoulders, as though a great burden was taken away. Her sisters were coming.

She couldn't see them yet, they were a ways off, but they would be there within the hour, and that was if nothing happened along the way. The people in the camp desperately needed aid and a supplement to their regiment. The cries of the dying had scratched at her all night, but she could not stop her commune to pull them back from the clutches of Death.

Her wings were a hindrance as she walked through the trees, but she was at a loss for sealing them until her sisters came with the binding pearls. She hopped along the high branches of the trees, where the blockage was at its sparsest, and made her way back towards camp.

[[sorry it's so short, im not feeling inspired]]

Chapter Two: The Auran. - Page 16 Empty Re: Chapter Two: The Auran.

'Arra.'

Kid turned in a flash of whirling cape her hidden eyes scanning the people who were looking at her with wary interest. She'd heard the drop of fear in Violin's voice. She knew Origin was here. Though she could not sense the woman she knew Violin would not be fearful for no reason.

The sun was rising at seemingly an accelerated rate and soon weak morning light washed over Kid. Her mouth parted a bit and she bared her teeth hissing softly like a moan in anger as well as pain as light assaulted her sensitive eyes. And light meant less shadows. For when it was night the entire world was a shadow, but when it was day only certain things held shadows. She was weakened now. And she didn't like the feeling. At least she could not locate the source of Vi's fear. So perhaps they were far off. She glanced back at Vanity who was still speaking with the Commander who's name Kid couldn't remember.

'Not even this place is safe,' Violin whispered through her thoughts.

'Calm,' Kid thought slowly letting any fear of anxious nervousness from her situation or being close to so many people wash away from her. Under her cloak her hands rested on her thighs and her forefinger and thumb formed a circle. She took a few breaths to calm herself and analyze the situation. Origin was coming to this camp, probably calmly, and probably not for her. The woman was a healer, so it seemed, a deadly healer okay, but a healer. So she was probably coming to heal people. Yes, yes that made good sense. But what if Origin found her? An icy finger traced down Kid's spine, she didn't want to know what would happen for some reason.

But where could she go? Hide? Where? The place was crawling with people. Run? Ha, yeah right. She never ran from anything. Fight? Maybe, if it came to that. Stay? Almost out of the question, almost. Relax? Yes, that sounded like a good idea. What about Violin? Shut them out, make them be quiet. No interruptions of fear.

So that's what she did, after a few seconds wrestling Kid literally threw Violin into the dark corner of her mind where their presence was weak, their voice muffled. Satisfied Kid looked around, still no sign of Origin. Only the weak morning light filtering through the trees. She looked at it distastefully and moved her body so she was standing in Vanity's shadow and not touched by the pure white light. But now with the new day light Kid could show he face. So she pulled down her hood, showing off her dark blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair at last.
